My New Year’s Resolution: Be Better. Live Better.
How Dazzle Africa can help me actually meet this year’s resolution.
Oftentimes I hear people say they want to “lose weight”, “exercise more” or some other general resolution that they really aren’t motivated to do (nor does it have any measurable positive effect on others). No judgment. I have often made the above referenced resolutions, only to have mostly given up or forgot about my commitment within a few weeks of the new year.
However, this year is going to be different. While hitting middle age (okay I may have actually hit “middle age” a while ago) I realize that I need to be more purposeful with my personal goals. Is my number 1 goal this year, really to lose a few pounds? No! I want to live a more experiential life and I also want to help people — that seems a lot more exciting and worthwhile than driving to the gym for 30 minutes a few times a week.
In sitting down to think about what I really wanted and how I could accomplish them, I decided that one of my New Year’s Resolutions is going to be to travel somewhere new.
This seems like something that we can all accomplish and that most of us actually want to do. We live in a time and place where we can go nearly anywhere on this planet with the click of a mouse. Who wouldn’t want to take advantage of this opportunity, go somewhere new, AND actually fulfill a new year’s resolution. Most of the people I know have never even gone to the continent of Africa — imagine how many new places there are to travel!!!
However, my “live better” resolution is tied to my “be better” goal as well. This is where Dazzle Africa can really help. Although Dazzle Africa is touted as a luxury african safari company, it’s real mission is as a non-profit organization helping with conservation, education and clean water projects in Zambia.
Not only do a significant portion of the proceeds go towards projects such as scholarships, boreholes, and anti-poaching efforts, but on these African safaris you get to actually meet community members and begin relationships, with students, community leaders and scouts.
Hence the tagline of “The Modern Safari Experience.” We can be purposeful about where our money goes and begin taking steps to help make a difference.
So, for this upcoming year I am excited about my new year’s resolution! I get the excitement of travel and getting to experience the wonderment of being completely immersed in a new environment.
I will get to be surrounded by animals such as zebras, elephants, leopards, and wild dogs — animals I have really only gotten to see on T.V. or the internet. Additionally, I get to be cognizant about where I spend my money to include donations, as well as an opportunity to foster relationships with people from different cultures. I get to be an engaged part of an organization that helps make the world a better place.
That’s what I call a win-win.
