At the end of the great rift valley in Zambia lies one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in the world called The South Luangwa National Park. This premier wilderness area is an astonishing place where the meandering Luangwa River runs through woodlands and large plains that play host to huge concentrations of wildlife including elephant, buffalo, lion, giraffe, hippos and over 450 species of birds. Nicknamed the Valley of the Leopard, The South Luangwa is one of the top 5 places to see leopards in all of Africa. It is here that you will also find one of the last strongholds of the endangered and amazing African Painted Dog. A thrill for any novice or experienced African safari lover.
These three camps and lodges are everything you need for the perfect South Luangwa Safari. You will begin at Flatdogs on the banks of the South Luangwa River where hippos and elephants frequently visit. Flatdogs has a delicious & varied menu and impeccable staff, so you are sure to be well taken care of. The next stop on your safari journey is at award-winning Mfuwe Lodge where wildlife surrounds you, enjoy relaxation at the spa and soak in the majesty of your safari experience. The Bushcamps are a world of their own deep in South Luangwa in the tranquility of wilderness.
You will have a safari coordinator as your host for the entirety of your time in Zambia. Your coordinator ensures your travels are simple and your experiences are superb.
WHAT TO EXPECT
South Luangwa National Park is a special place to experience safari with high concentrations of animals and few other tourists in the area. There are endangered and unique animals like the African painted dog and also the animals everyone plans to see on safari like herds of elephants and towers of giraffes. The mighty Luangwa River brings the area to life and also provides the perfect habitat for pods of hippos and crocodiles.
South Luangwa is located in eastern Zambia and has over 60 species of mammals and 400 species of birds in the park. The animals are monitored and protected by Conservation South Luangwa and Zambian Carnivore Programme in partnership with Zambia’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife. All Dazzle safaris support the conservation and protection of this magnificent ecosystem.

Days 1-3: After your international flight lands, meet your fellow travelers at the Lusaka Airport for a short one-hour plane ride to a favorite camp of ours, Flatdogs Camp, in Mfuwe Zambia. Flatdogs has the perfect mix of a river view, incredible wildlife guides, full restaurant, relaxing pool and the gorgeous accommodations with everything you’ll need to start your dream safari!
Start soaking in the sights and sounds of South Luangwa Valley. This is where you will be exploring over the next 8 days! You choose how you explore. Twice daily game drives, walking safaris, visits to philanthropic projects and time to relax at camp are all available for you.
Days 4-6 Enjoy the famous Mfuwe Lodge. Mfuwe Lodge has an outdoor pool overlooking a watering hole where you will view elephants, giraffes zebras and more… You also have access to a relaxing spa, and other adventurous activities for you to enjoy. Set around two lagoons, shaded by the canopy of ebony and mahogany trees, award-winning Mfuwe Lodge is the perfect place to ease into Luangwa life. This region of the park is renowned for its prolific game and giraffe, hippos, buffalo, antelope, elephant and crocodile are constant visitors to Mfuwe Lodge’s lagoon.
Mfuwe is also a great place to learn more about the projects you are supporting by traveling with Dazzle Africa. You will be able to visit the Mfuwe Day Secondary School and school program, Hands Over Zambia, our conservation partners, as well as the local community at one of our sponsored boreholes.
Days 7-8: Transfer to one of the famous South Luangwa Bushcamps. The Bushcamps are small and intimate camps located in the wilderness of the national park. These bushcamps are world-renowned for walking safaris, offer excellent wildlife drives and provide an opportunity for peace of mind that is second to none in a beautiful luxurious setting.
Day 9: Enjoy your final breakfast in the bush (until your next safari)! You will be departing back to Mfuwe Lodge today and heading to the charming Mfuwe Airport for your next destination or back home!
